On Saturday morning the 4th May we held a Mothers Day Sale at the Shed premises. We had an excellent turnout of members willing to help. The event was well advertised via 93.3 Coast FM as well as Facebook & signage in the immediate vicinity. Again it was a huge success and raised much needed funds for our shed.

A big thank you to all those who helped before & on the day.

Steve one of our newer members was asked by a guy to make a custom chess board. After a bit of thought he decided to segment some thin plywood on the table saw then char the squares with  blow torch. He then glued this to a thicker 20mm section of form ply. The result is a unique chess board

Quite impressive Steve

A lot of people ask us what we do at the Shed.    We endeavour to help the general community wherever possible but will not encroach on the local trades. As an example we had a lady asking us if we could make a butchers block/table from old timber she supplied, as she said none of the local joinery shops were interested, so we agreed. We have qualified carpentry members who did the job and the results can be seen below.

Here is another example where a lady brought in a couple of chairs from her dining setting.

They were quite unstable and needed to be be dismantled the splits in the timber repaired  fully glued then re-assembled. So now her setting is back to like new.

At our address there are a number of government funded organizations one of which is the Mosaic Multicultural Connections group. They approached us to see if we would make shelving for more storage in a designated area of their premises. Steve one of our newer members took on the task and they were more than happy with what he achieved.

Campbell from the Central Coast Sports College, was here last year & must have enjoyed himself (as seen in a previous post), as he asked if we would host him again this term. This time he wanted to make a storage rack for his fishing rods. The project is well underway  with help and direction from the members it looks like it will be great when finished.

Here's another fun thing one of our resident laser cutting experts  Peter knocked up. It's a dual wing single engine seaplane made from a plan he found on the internet and each piece has rectangular notches to make for easy assembly. Although still learning the finer points of laser cutting he did a super job.

Our other self taught laser expert David took on a  small project to etch 60 glass and snack holders for Central Coast Champagne Harriettes  with their Logo

They look the goods to me David

It is good to see how the members are taking advantage of digital technology as it becomes available to them
