Our committee is of the opinion we need to start upgrading or purchasing equipment to move our members into the computer technology age. 

To that end we have recently added a laser burner/cutter to the Shed. Below are photos of the Emblazer2 machine acquired and a cake topper cut from 3 ply for a members granddaughter's 19th birthday; also samples of etching the machine can do on a whole array of different materials.

 The whole process is programed on a computer then fed into the Emblazer2 via Lightburn software that comes with the machine.

We are now all on a learning curve to operate this contraption!! 

 

 

 Just before Xmas a guy named Philip came to the Shed with a special request. The neighbour across the road from him (single lady) had a letterbox that had fallen to pieces with age. He had previously repaired it a couple of times but it had reached it's use by date but the post was still OK.       

As a surprise Xmas present he asked us to make another one without a post. Steve Harris a qualified  carpenter enjoys doing this type of thing.  He put his hand up and proceeded to manufacture one to his own design out of cedar. The client wanted to paint it himself. so it was supplied raw. 

We don't think she will be wanting a replacement for a very long time. 

 

 

Due to things getting back to near normal after the Covid crisis, the members were once again able to attend their Xmas function at a venue away from the Shed.

We were to hold it at Bateau Bay Bowing Club & we asked for the   screened off area at the rear of the Bistro. The area has it's own bar with a barman with both requests for no cost. 

It was not a set meal so members could choose what they wanted from the menu.

The  were given a certain amount to pay for a meal and any cost above this to be met by them. 

The function was such a success that everyone asked for the same venue etc. for next year. Below is a few snaps of members and how the whole area was set up.  

 

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

All Eagles plumbing stores on the Coast have held a combined golf day annually since 2016,  (except  in the Covid crisis) to raise funds for worthy causes.

Since the inception they have split these funds with various      Coastal Men's Sheds.                    

Bateau Bay is one of these lucky sheds & this year we were presented with a cheque for $1350 by Clint the Long Jetty Branch manager.                            

This donation will be put to good use supporting the local population and is much appreciated. It is nice to know the local trades know & appreciate that we help the local Community without encroaching on their income.

 We have been hanging on for quite a while with the view of purchasing a new table saw to replace our 12 year old model. Due to the limited work area and volume of plywood we cut it was decided to buy a panel saw with outrigger support. The old saw was sold for a good price which helped with the cost of the new one. It was then left to our team of expert fitters to assemble and install the machine. The photos below show Clive and Steve hard at work with the assembly and leveling of the saw.

 Clive tends to nod off from time to time but always  gets the job done

 

 

There has been very little community activity in the Bateau Bay area lately so the members have been able to concentrate on their own projects. 

Shaun Edwards one of our newer members made this treasure chest, (with a bit of help from others). 

He made it for his Grand Daughter's 4th birthday in December.   

At one of our morning teas. he said how pleased he was with the result and acknowledged the help he received

 We have an ongoing relationship with Community Environment Network who have in the passed asked us to assist with numerous bat boxes etc. which we have supplied as flat packs. Now we have been asked to manufacture Sugar Glider, Swift Parrot, & Black Cockatoo shelters that will be required ASAP.     Graham & Neil offered to do all the cutting and assembly  while other members assisted with the sealing and  painting
