Below is just a small sample of the cakes that are supplied to the shed members on the 3 days we are open.

They are donated by NOT JUST CAKES outlets & are the leftovers not sold the day before.

All the stuff we shouldn't eat at our age.

Maybe this is why our membership is growing so rapidly.

there's a Defibrillator on the way (hopefully)

 in the New Year 

One of our major sponsors ADSSI Home Living gave us a large cash donation some months ago.
They said it could be used as decided by the majority of members.
When put to the men, it was almost unanimous the funds be used to enable our newly elected committee gain a current First Aid Certificate.

We called on Julie Rigg (whom the Shed has used in the past) for instruction & practical training to enable them to qualify for the Certificate.

To make up the numbers required for a substantial discount the New Community Garden was offered the chance to participate & 2 of their Committee completed the coarse. They naturally paid their own expenses.  

It was a big day for all as they had to get the memory going & brush off the cobwebs from the grey matter but they all managed to pass in the end.

Little Tommy Greene has tackled another intricate project for us.

Rita Hogan had 2 sets of  English silver cutlery and only had a storage box for 1 set. 

She asked the shed to make her another container exactly the same as the sample she brought to us.

Tom immediately put his hand up to do the job after we volunteered him for the task.

There was a lot of worrying & sleepless nights ('cause that's what Tommy does) before he figured out how to get the end result exactly right, as seen in the photos below.  

He lost a lot of hair lining the box with the red self adhesive felt. 

I think we may even have heard a few swear words. Not like Tom.

 Anyway, job's done & Rita was so thrilled to receive the finished product she gave us a donation plus a nice bonus as well!!

Any Keen Fishermen About

This is Colin Hession with his setup for making fishing lures  .

Col has been a member for some time now & has adapted the equipment he brought to suit his needs.

He attends the Shed most Tuesdays & sets himself up outside with his collapsible table & chair then goes 

for it, making various lures for both fresh & saltwater fish. 

He has even made lures to order for some of the members.

Our Shed constructed the display boxes for HMAS Swan and HMAS Sydney 1 to which  perspex fronts and LED lighting were later fitted. For the last four months Peter Rea has been working on a cut-away illustration which shows in great detail the internals of HMAS Swan & is exactly the same size as the model.

 The 1.5m long model built by Michael Evans, was acquired by 'History and Heritage, Hunter to Hawkesbury Research' (4HR) for it's Centenary of Anzac exhibition. Planned  unveiling is the week prior to Anzac Day 2015.

The model has been previewed, this year, throughout Oct. and Nov. as part of the Brisbane Water Historical Society WWI exhibition at Henry Kendall Cottage & Museum.. The Society has requested the exhibition be held over until it is required for the 4HR Anzac exhibition.

  

The Men's Shed has also constructed a second display box for which 4HR will be acquiring a 1.8m long model, of HMAS Sydney I also built by Michael Evans. At the same time Peter Rea from 4HR is constructing a model of SMS Emden, which Sydney destroyed at the Battle of Cocas Island in 1914.
Both ships will share the second display box.

 Today the wrecks of two WWI sister ships HMAS Swan and HMAS Parramatta lay in the Hawkesbury River providing a local link via these very historic ships to the events of 1914-18.

After the initial exhibition for the Centenary of Anzac in April 2015, the exhibition will be available at other venues as an enclosed trailer has been donated and is currently being modified to suit.

 Bob Pankhurst was fascinated by the display of HMAS Swan.

 All ages have found the HMAS Swan display of great interest.

Presentation of the Banner Stands to

 The Freemasons Central Coast

The handing over of 2 Banner stands by Josie Herod to the Freemasons was held on the 19th November at 10.45am

 

Graham, David, Rex, & a few other Brothers, as well as their wives were in attendance representing the Freemasons.

Also on hand were Ron & Peter (who finished the project) to support Josie, & numerous BBMS members.

The gift was greatly appreciated by the Lodge, & as Graham commented they will be frequently used at their various functions/services & will replace the makeshift ones they are currently using.
